The Parson Jack Russell Terrier
has also been known as the Jack Russell Terrier. The American Kennel
Club changed the name of the Parson Jack Russell Terrier and the Jack Russell
Terrier to the Parson Russell Terrier effective April 1, 2003. The
name change to Parson Russell Terrier was made at the request of the Parson
Russell Terrier Association of America.
The Parson Jack Russell Terrier
was developed in the south of England in the 1800’s by Reverend John
Russell. Many people called the breed the Jack Russell Terrier
or the Parson Jack Russell Terrier. The Parson Jack Russell Terrier
was used to work European red fox both above and below the ground.
The Parson Jack Russell Terrier
has become widely popular in many countries both as a pet and a working
terrier.
