Parson Russell Terriers are
also been known as the Parson Jack Russell Terriers and the Jack Russell
Terriers. The American Kennel Club officially changed the name to
the Parson Russell Terrierss on April 1, 2003.
The Reverend John Russell
developed Jack Russell Terriers in the south of England in the 1800’s.
He was known as the “Sporting Parson” as he hunted his Parson Russell Terriers
in the Devon countryside. The Parson Russell Terriers ran with the
horse and hounds as they trailed the fox. When the fox went
to ground, the Parson Russell Terriers entered the ground and bolted the
fox so that the hunt could continue.
Parson Russell Terriers are
a courageous breed that still has a strong hunting instinct. Parson
Russell Terriers have become widely popular in many countries as both a
pet and a working Terriers. They are also increasing in popularity
for racing, agility, fly ball etc.
