About
the Jack Russell Terrier
Reverend John Russell developed
the Jack Russell Terrier in the south of England in the 1800’s.
He used the Jack Russell Terrier to trail hounds and bolted foxes from
their dens so that the hunt could ride on. The Jack Russell
Terrier is a very special breed; it has been kept sound, functional and
relatively unchanged because of responsible people who have cared about
its heritage.
The Jack Russell Terrier
is a happy, bold, energetic dog that is extremely loyal, intelligent and
assertive. Their greatest attribute is their working ability,
closely followed by their excellent qualities as a companion.
A Jack Russell Terrier can be equally at home chasing a toy in your living
room or killing a rat in your barn. While adaptable to a variety
of environments, the Jack Russell Terrier is first and foremost bred to
be hunting dogs. The courage of the Jack Russell Terrier is
never in doubt, they have been known to take on an adversary many times
their size.
The Jack Russell Terrier
can make a terrific family pet, and is usually friendly with small children,
providing the child knows how to handle the terrier.
The American Kennel Club
changed the name of the Jack Russell Terrier to the Parson Russell Terrier
effective April 1, 2003.
The limited edition “Treed”
shows many traits of the Jack Russell Terrier breed and is a wonderful
addition to any Jack Russell Terrier collection.
