At Bay - (hand painted finish)
The Jack Russell is one of
the breeds of terriers that still are working terriers. The Jack
Russell is shown in this figurine holding a fox at bay. This
unique figurine of a Jack Russell is cast from resin and hand painted.
As sculpted, the Jack Russell
terrier has a fox at bay in this beautiful figurine. The Jack
Russell terrier is known for its great courage and hunting abilities.
Reverend John Russell developed
the Jack Russell terrier in the south of England in the 1800’s.
The Jack Russell was used to hunt the European red fox. They
followed the fox hounds and when the fox went to ground, the Jack Russell
bolted the foxes from their dens and the hunt continued. The
courage of the Jack Russell has never been in doubt as they are known to
take on adversaries much larger than themselves.
The Jack Russell has since
become widely popular in many countries. They are used to hunt
a variety of prey. In addition to fox they are used to
hunt; woodchuck, raccoon, squirrel, rats, badger, etc. The
Jack Russell must possess certain characteristics in order to be a hunting
dog. The Jack Russell must have a ready attitude, alert and
confident, balance in height and length, medium size and bone.
The Jack Russell coat is either smooth or broken but must be weatherproof.
The Jack Russell is
dog that is equally at home in the hunting field or your living room.
They are extremely loyal, intelligent and assertive. The Jack
Russell is not for everyone because they are a feisty breed and have been
known to train their owners more often than not.
The Jack Russell is still
a working breed because they have been primarily bred as a hunting dog
and have therefore maintained their natural hunting instincts.
The hand painted “Fox at
Bay” figurine shows the natural hunting instinct of the Jack Russell.
It is a great addition to any Jack Russell art collection.
The American Kennel Club
changed the name of the Jack Russell Terrier to the Parson Russell Terrier
on April 1, 2003
